AGO Film Processor (without tank)

Automated processor for Paterson tanks / time compensation / tank not included

The AGO Film Processor was the first processor to work by time compensation instead of temperature regulation: you warm the chemistry yourself, and AGO lengthens or shortens development as the temperature drifts, so there is no water bath to hold at a fixed temperature. Fitted to a Paterson Super System 4 tank, it turns hand development into automated development. This version ships without a tank, for photographers who already develop with Paterson tanks and reels.

Overview

In the box are the processor, the AGO funnel and rear stand, a USB-C charging cable, a quick-start guide and a funnel drilling template; the Paterson tank and reels are not included. The supplied funnel already has the three side holes AGO needs, so chemistry can be poured in with the processor attached, and the template is there for when you want to modify another funnel of your own. The VA010 Modified Funnel and Rear Stand Kit is the same funnel and stand that come with every AGO, so it is a spare for multi-tank workflows rather than something you have to add. Laid horizontally, the processor rotates the tank: rotary agitation uses up to 60% less chemistry than traditional vertical or inversion agitation methods, and this is the mode in which time compensation runs, with the probe sitting in the liquid and reading its temperature. Stood vertically, it drives the Paterson agitation stick instead, for chemistry that does not tolerate continuous agitation; in this position the probe is not in the liquid, so time compensation is switched off and you keep the temperature yourself. AGO does not heat the chemistry in either mode, so bring it up to temperature before you start. Programs for B&W, C-41, E-6, ECN-2 and RA-4 chemistry are pre-loaded, and the Wi-Fi browser interface lets you write custom programs, add new chemistry profiles and install firmware updates from a phone or computer. Minimum chemistry for roll film depends on the tank: 250 ml for PTP114, 350 ml for PTP115, 450 ml for PTP116, 650 ml for PTP117 and 950 ml for PTP118.

Common questions

Questions about this product

How do you hold 38°C for C-41 development at home?

C-41 runs near 38°C. You either hold the temperature with a water bath, or let a processor compensate with time.

What is the AGO Film Processor, and how can it work without controlling temperature?

AGO turns a Paterson tank into an automatic processor. Instead of holding temperature, it adjusts development time to match the drift.

Does the AGO work with a Paterson tank I already own?

Yes — every Paterson Super System 4 tank fits, but the funnel needs three holes drilled in its side.
