Overview

In the box: one Super 8 reel, a roller base used both for loading the film in complete darkness and for hand-rotary development, and drying clips for hanging the film afterwards. It fits the Paterson Super System 4 Multi-Reel 8 tank (PTP118) only — smaller Paterson tanks will not take it — and one reel holds one standard 50 ft / 15.24 m cartridge. Chemistry is the figure to plan around: 700 ml is enough when the AGO Film Processor turns the tank, while inversion or hand-rotary agitation without the AGO needs at least 2,350 ml. Note that the AGO's automatic time compensation runs in rotary (horizontal) mode only; in vertical stick-agitation mode the temperature probe does not sit in the liquid, so compensation is switched off. The reel handles B&W, C-41 and E-6, and for B&W reversal (Scala process) the re-exposure step is made through the translucent reel body with a light source inside — Vintage Visual's LED Light for Super 8 is a separate product. Running any Paterson tank on the AGO also calls for the modified funnel, with three holes drilled in its side. That funnel is included with every AGO Film Processor; Vintage Visual supplies a drilling template with the processor as well, and sells the pre-modified funnel on its own.

Common questions

Questions about this product

Are enlarger lens boards and negative carriers interchangeable?

No — they are specific to the enlarger maker and model. Check the compatibility notes in each product's specifications, or contact us with your enlarger model before ordering.

How do I choose a darkroom timer?

For enlarging, second-precision exposure control matters most. For film and print processing, a timer that can step through multiple stages is the practical choice.
