Vintage Visual REEL Paper 8

Paper developing reel for AGO / up to 30 x 40 cm / Paterson Multi-Reel 8 tank

REEL Paper 8 is the larger of the two AGO paper reels: it develops RA-4 colour prints and black-and-white prints up to 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 in) inside a standard Paterson 8-reel tank. It is for darkroom printers who would rather process prints light-tight in a rotary tank than in open trays.

Overview

Moulded in ASA plastic and designed for easy loading in the dark. It fits the Paterson Multi-Reel 8 (PTP118) tank only, and smaller Paterson tanks will not take it. Processing is horizontal rotary with the AGO Film Processor; this reel is not compatible with hand inversion. Rotary is also the mode in which AGO's time compensation is active — it does not run in vertical stick mode — so you bring the chemistry to temperature yourself and the processor adjusts development time as that temperature drifts. An AGO Quick Pour Funnel is supplied with the reel, so if you already have an AGO there is nothing further to add before you start printing. Separately, running an AGO on a Paterson tank uses a funnel modified with three holes in the side: that modified funnel comes with every AGO processor, along with a drilling template if you would rather modify a funnel of your own, and Vintage Visual also sells pre-modified funnels. REEL Paper 8 will process 8 x 10 prints as well, though REEL Paper 5 is the more economical choice at that size because it uses less chemistry.

Common questions

Questions about this product

Are enlarger lens boards and negative carriers interchangeable?

No — they are specific to the enlarger maker and model. Check the compatibility notes in each product's specifications, or contact us with your enlarger model before ordering.

How do I choose a darkroom timer?

For enlarging, second-precision exposure control matters most. For film and print processing, a timer that can step through multiple stages is the practical choice.
