Overview

The Paper 5 takes film or paper up to 8x10 inches. The REEL 5x7 holds up to two sheets of 5x7 inch or 13x18cm film per reel, with the top holder pressed one click for 13x18cm and two clicks for 5x7. The 5x7 reel also inserts inside the Paper 5, splitting it into two sections so that several prints up to 5x7 can be processed at once and the paper strip is guided correctly. Both reels need a Paterson 5-reel (PTP117) or 8-reel (PTP118) tank, and both work either with the AGO Film Processor or with hand agitation. Rotary (horizontal) agitation on the AGO uses up to 60% less chemistry than traditional vertical or inversion agitation methods: in a PTP117 the minimum is 350ml for the REEL 5x7 and 250ml for the Paper 5 (500ml and 400ml in a PTP118), against at least 1350ml per 5x7 reel with vertical hand agitation. Note that the AGO adjusts development time for temperature drift only in rotary mode; in vertical stick agitation the temperature probe does not sit in the liquid, so time compensation is switched off. The reels are 3D printed in durable PETG. The Paper 5 is not compatible with staining developers when processing film, and the tank and the AGO processor are sold separately.

Common questions

Questions about this product

Are enlarger lens boards and negative carriers interchangeable?

No — they are specific to the enlarger maker and model. Check the compatibility notes in each product's specifications, or contact us with your enlarger model before ordering.

How do I choose a darkroom timer?

For enlarging, second-precision exposure control matters most. For film and print processing, a timer that can step through multiple stages is the practical choice.
