Overview

The reel is made for Paterson Super System 4 tanks in the 5-reel (PTP117) and 8-reel (PTP118) sizes; a PTP117 or larger tank is required, so the smaller 1-, 2- and 3-reel tanks will not take it. Sheets load emulsion-side inward between the columns and slide down, then the top holder is attached and pressed — one click for 13x18cm, two clicks for 5x7 inch. Developed horizontally in the AGO Film Processor, the minimum chemistry is 350ml in a PTP117 and 500ml in a PTP118; the same reel agitated vertically by hand needs 1350ml. Note that the AGO's time compensation, which adjusts development time as the chemistry temperature drifts, is active only in rotary (horizontal) mode — with vertical stick agitation the temperature probe does not sit in the liquid, so compensation is switched off. The reel can also be placed inside the Paper5 reel as an insert, splitting it into two sections, which is the correct configuration for developing 5x7 RA-4 or black-and-white darkroom prints. Supplied as the reel only — tank, AGO processor and chemistry are sold separately.

Common questions

Questions about this product

Are enlarger lens boards and negative carriers interchangeable?

No — they are specific to the enlarger maker and model. Check the compatibility notes in each product's specifications, or contact us with your enlarger model before ordering.

How do I choose a darkroom timer?

For enlarging, second-precision exposure control matters most. For film and print processing, a timer that can step through multiple stages is the practical choice.
