Overview

"K" is not coated by Film Washi. It is Kodak Plus-X Aerographic Film 2402 — a panchromatic aerial reconnaissance negative on a 100 µm polyester base, ESTAR being Kodak's trade name for that base — cut down from expired aerial rolls and packed twelve sheets to a kraft-paper envelope. Film Washi states the stock expired in 2000 but is well preserved, rates it at ISO 100, and describes the grain as fine and the contrast as moderate. Spectral sensitivity peaks at 700 nm: the extended red response the original stock used to see through atmospheric haze, which is why the maker recommends it for landscape. It is red-extended, not an infrared film. In 4x5 the donor roll's perforations fall inside the picture area and stay visible on two sides of every sheet — a defining characteristic of the product rather than a defect, so plan your compositions around it. Handle in total darkness; the datasheet allows no safelight of any colour. Load the holder from bottom to top with the notch in the upper right corner. Film Washi publishes development times at ISO 100 for Rodinal, D-76, HC-110, Xtol, Ilfosol 3, Ilfotec LC29 and Tetenal Ultrafin.

Organized by format, speed, and process.

Common questions

Questions about this product

Does film need to be refrigerated?

Store unexposed film in a cool, dark place away from heat and humidity. For storage beyond a few months, refrigeration below 10°C is recommended. Let film return to room temperature in its packaging for 2-3 hours before shooting to avoid condensation.

What is the difference between C-41, E-6, and black-and-white processing?

C-41 develops color negative film, E-6 develops reversal (slide) film, and black-and-white negative film uses dedicated B&W chemistry. The Neo Analog Lab mail-in processing service handles C-41, E-6, ECN-2, and black-and-white.
