Paterson Changing Bag

Double-skin changing bag / W640 × L700 mm / load film without a darkroom

A double-skin, light-tight bag that lets you load a film into a developing tank without having to find a darkroom first. It is also what you reach for when a film jams, or has been only partly exposed, and has to come out of the camera in complete darkness.

What it is forLoading a film into a developing tank without a darkroom; removing a jammed or partly exposed film from the camera

Overview

Paterson describes the bag as a fail-safe double skin with a zip closure, elasticised arm apertures and a comfortable lining, the inner lining being specially designed to avoid perspiration in prolonged use. At W640 × L700 mm it is large enough to allow a camera back to be fully opened once inside, and still small enough to fit into a camera bag. If you work with large tanks or sheet-film holders, measure them against those dimensions before you order, so you know your whole kit has room inside. And if this is your first time working blind, wind a scrap film onto the reel a few times in daylight before you try it inside the bag.

Archival supplies and small bench essentials.

Common questions

Questions about this product

How do I choose negative sleeves?

For 135 film the standard page holds 7 strips of 6 frames; for 120, pages hold 3-4 strips. For long-term storage choose acid-free material that passes the Photographic Activity Test (PAT).

What size trays do I need?

Use trays one size larger than your paper, and plan on 3-4: developer, stop bath, fixer, and a holding/wash tray.
