## Description

A 30.5 m (100 ft) bulk roll of Film Washi's ISO 400 near-infrared-sensitive black and white film, for loading your own 135 cassettes.

A 30.5 m (100 ft) roll of the same Z stock, for photographers who spool their own cassettes. Film Washi announced the bulk format on its own news page in August 2025, made possible by a bulk loader the maker built from recycled parts — new enough that the film's datasheet still lists only the 135-24 roll and the single use camera under standard sizes. The emulsion is an industrially coated aerial-survey film rated 400 ISO on a clear 100 µm polyester base, with a spectral maximum of 750 nm: panchromatic with a near-infrared tail, which is where the bright foliage, dark skies and strong contrast on landscape work come from, and a red filter exaggerates that effect further. Loading has to be done in complete darkness — the datasheet specifies total darkness for this film and allows no safelight of any colour. Spooling your own also means none of the extra leader Film Washi supplies with its finished cassettes, so leave yourself a generous leader, load and unload the camera in shade, and still shoot three blank frames before starting: the clear base pipes light. Development is ordinary black-and-white chemistry: D-76 stock 10 min, Xtol stock 8 min, Rodinal 1+25 7 min and Ilfosol 3 1+9 4.5 min at 20 °C, Ilfotec RT Rapid undiluted 70 s at 26 °C, or the times and dilution for Ilford Delta at 400 in any other developer. Film Washi does not publish how many cassettes a roll yields, how it is packaged, or whether cassettes are supplied, so we do not state it.

## Questions

- **Does film need to be refrigerated?** Store unexposed film in a cool, dark place away from heat and humidity. For storage beyond a few months, refrigeration below 10°C is recommended. Let film return to room temperature in its packaging for 2-3 hours before shooting to avoid condensation.
- **What is the difference between C-41, E-6, and black-and-white processing?** C-41 develops color negative film, E-6 develops reversal (slide) film, and black-and-white negative film uses dedicated B&W chemistry. The Neo Analog Lab mail-in processing service handles C-41, E-6, ECN-2, and black-and-white.
- **What is the difference between 135 and 120 film?** 135 is standard 35mm cassette film, usually 24 or 36 exposures. 120 is medium-format roll film: about 16 frames at 6x4.5, 12 at 6x6, or 10 at 6x7. Check which format your camera takes before ordering.
